At a guess i would say (if its not a typo) that your statement above is the
cause of your problem, "noauto, user, ro" it should be; "noauto,user,ro"

/dev/hdc        /cdrom  iso9660 noauto,user     0 0

I always mount and unmount my floppy and cd as a user and not root.
