I believe that Jacob is running a mail relay as part of his LAN. Even if
not, he needs to run some MTA to send messages from a Linux workstation to
its mail server - and I believe fetchmail expects to find an SMTP daemon
running on port 25 for it to use to complete delivery of the POPmail it
downloads.

Unfortunately my expertise with sendmail is woefully out of date.
