gpm - selecting text

When selecting text in a virtual console, is gpm limited to the height
of the display?  In other words, when using mc for example, can I
extend the mouse selection below the bottom line of the file I'm
viewing (as the file scrolls upward to the point I want to end the
selection), capturing more than one screen full of text in one
operation?
