It depends on how much deeper you like to get into it. For getting a
proper base knowledge i can recommend the book from Michael Kofler
"Installation, Konfiguration, Anwendung". The title should be in english
"Installation, Configuartion, Application", afaik there are english
translations (the original is in german). It is published at Addison-Wesley
and the newest edition is the 4th.
It gives advice for newbies and explaines how to install a Linux distrib
(the book comes with SuSE 6.0 evaluation), how to use the shell commands,
how to work with the most importnat editiors, hwo to handle filesystems and
user permission, how to setup x11 and gives a short help for the common x11
windowmanager and some other programs.
I like it very much and it helped me to bug this list less, hehehe.
