1. What command is Eudora giving you the "command unknown" message in
response to? Eudora is actually reporting a response it gets from the SMTP
server, but you haven't said what command is generating the error (If it
isn't shown in the actual error dialog box, note the last command command
Eudora says it is sending before the error comes up, as reported in the
"Progress" dialog box.)

2. What MTA are you running on the server? sendmail, qmail, exim, something
else? What version? (As someone already noted, POP3 clients still use SMTP
to *send* mail.)

3. In Eudora, do you have the right server name set in options/send mail?
