Thanks for the informative note. I know Linux supports hardware RAID, many
times that is OS-independant, when the RAID is configured through a BIOS
extension.

More, my question is one of availability. Many sofisticated RAID systems
(100+ hard disk drives) are externally enclosed. They are all installed on
a SCSI backplane, with Firewire connecting seperate backplanes, and to host
computer servers. There are many advanced PCI cards to access these
firewire/SCSI backplanes to external RAID arrays. I selected a few cards
that I am very interested in, but I could not find them on the Linux
Hardware compatability list. One of them was the Dell PERC card, which was
not listed. But after search on dell's support site, I found a Knowledge
Base article that lead to the download of RH5.2 drivers for PERC cards.

So, to restate the question: What Firewire cards are supported under linux.
If none, what RAID cards are supported that can be configured with 3-channel
external RAID arrays? (Besides the dell card, and AMI MegaRAID).

Again, Thanks for the help.
