I just recently built an AMD K6-II system using the TYAN 100AT board. This
board comes with both 168 PIN DIMM sockets and 72 PIN SIMM sockets. I was
surprised to learn that not only could I mix and match DIMM with SIMM at the
same time but that I could operate the bus a 100 Mhz with plain old 72 PIN EDO
RAM. No PC100 SDRAM required although I imagine it would be better it I used
those instead. In any case so far it has worked flawlessly for me. My
suggestion is to look in the owners manual for your system. If there is no
specific mention of using both DIMMS and SIMMS then go ahead and give it a try
and see what you get.
