HTH:

if it is PCI it is probably a 'host'/'win' modem and won't work.
if it was cheap (<$99) it is probably a 'host'/'win' modem and won't work.

if 'setserial /dev/modem' responds with a modem type (8250,16450,16550,16650,etc)
 it will (probably) work.
 if not, it probably won't.
