There is no *general* answer for this, absent some knowledge of what you
want to use the system for, other than "make it as big as you can". I've run
(Slackware) Linux in as little as 100 megs, for a command-line only version,
but generally I prefer a gig or more for a system with X, a lot of X apps,
and all the development tools.
