96Megs is more than enough for X. I just sold my old computer that had only
16Megs. It also ran X just fine, but bogged down when running any large program
in X, such as netscape.
How much is X "chewing" up your swap partition? Linux will always access your
swap, even if you have 1Gig ram! Minor access while X starts is normal.
Constant accessing of swap during use might be a different story.
Run "free" so see what your memory situation is.
