Even at the "X only" run level, your average inittab has at least one
getty on a text console, typically tty6, for people who don't bother
making sure xdm is set up properly before switching to runlevel 5. :-)
You should be able to get to it with control-alt-F6. If that doesn't
work, try the other F<n> keys.
Or, get lilo's attention by holding a shift key when booting, and give
init its marching orders:
LILO boot: <image name> single
(hit tab for a list of image names)
Or, use a rescue floppy. The RedHat install and supplemental floppies
have a rescue oprion you can use to fix things like inittab.
