What does "or so it looks" mean?
The usual Linux standard for packaging is tar.gz (or .tgz), and to expand it
you run first pkunzip, then tar (or tar with the -z option).
If you really have a true Winzip file, try expanding it with unzip.
The man pages for tar, gzip, and zip will fill in the details.
