Where you should start depends on the details of what you need to set up.

If your LAN has real IP addresses, all you need the Linux host to do is
route. This is easy; it's just a matter of hooking it up to the LAN and the
Internet connection, configuring each interface (eth0 for the LAN; the WAN
interface depends on the etechnology you are using to connect to the
Internet), and telling the other hosts on the LAN to use the Linux router as
the gateway. (You do need IP Forwarding turned on in the kernel, but that
has been standard for years, so unless you've done a kernel recompile, you
should be okay on that score.)

If your LAN has isolated-LAN IP addresses (e.g., 192.168.x.x), then you need
to run IP Masquerading on the Linux router. The IP Masquerading mini-HowTo
will get you started here; look in /usr/doc on your system or at URL
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/IP-Masquerade.html .

Depending on the details of your problem, you may also want to consult the
Firewall HowTo or the PPP HowTo.

Once you've gotten started, this list is a good place to return to with
specific questions.
