Greetings fellow penguins:
I have an Epson NB-SL/20 (386SX) with a VGA mono LCD screen, on which I
just got Slackware 3.1 up and running for the first time. I installed
XFree86 3.2 with the VGA16 server. Superprobe reports the video chip as
being a Cirrus Logic CL6410 with 768k of video ram.
When I try to run X using startx all I end up with is a blank screen.
When I kill the server with ctl-alt-bspace the console text does not get
refreshed. If I try to run XF86Setup I get a graphic screen, but the
mouse (PS/2) is stuck in the upper left corner, and I can't interact
with the program, and end up killing the server. However, I don't know
if this is due to the overall X problem or something else.
I have read through the man pages, the HOWTO's, the README's, and
several web pages, including the linux on laptops site without much
luck. I did find on the XFree86 site a list of recommended servers for
certain chips, and it said that I should use the X32_SVGA with my video
chip, but I still get the same results, so I went to the more generic X
server.
I have a feeling that the Hsync and Vertrefresh values are not correct
for the LCD, But I can't seem to track down any source to find them. I
have also heard that these values don't have as much significance with
LCD screens, which makes sense, but I don't know. I currently have the
values set at Hsync 31.5 and Vrefresh 60.
Any clues on this one?
Thanks,
Dave
