when I turned of dir. listings and the ~/public_html dir was empty.
Create and index.htm in the directory in question...see if that works.

Look for CRT, works for me. I only use it to log in and then export a
few xterms.

man smbmnt (smbmount?). Never used it myself, but it looks like it's
what you need.
