Hello All,

BACKGROUND INFO:

At work we use DHCP to assign some of our IP
addresses, and we "renew" the lease of the IP
everyday for 2 days.

I am trying to setup my PC at work with Caldera's
OpenLinux 2.2. I am having problems getting the
NIC up and running. Eventually I would like to get
SAMBA running, but need to clear this hurdle first.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:

The NIC is a Compaq Integrated NetFlex-3/P and I
found out from reading the Ethernet-HOWTO, IIRC,
that I needed to use the tlan.o module. I did the
following command:

# modprobe tlan

and the following messages were returned:

TLAN driver, v1.0, (C) 1997-8 Caldera, Inc.
TLAN: eth0 irq=11 io=1000, Compaq Integrated NetFlex-3/P, Rev. 16

The irq and i/o base are correct, at least according
to Win95. Now I need to setup the NIC with the
ifconfig command, but reading through the Ethernet-HOWTO
I didn't see anywhere that DHCP was mentioned. I
also read the DHCP mini-howto but that didn't shed
any light on things either.

SOME NUMBERS THAT I HAVE FOUND OUT:

Current IP ADDR....: 162.130.67.121
NETMASK............: 255.255.252.0
GATEWAY............: 162.130.64.1
DHCP SERVER........: 162.130.64.58
WINS SERVERS.......: 162.130.64.76
                                162.130.103.51
DNS SERVERS........: 162.130.10.9
                                162.130.128.97
HOSTNAME...........: EGRISSEN-83265.marriott.com

I know the commands that I have to use, if I had
a static IP would be:

# ifconfig eth0 162.130.67.121 netmask 255.255.252.0 up
# route add -net 162.130.?.? netmask 255.255.252.0 eth0
# route add default gw 162.130.64.1 eth0

But what do I use as the value for my IP address if
I get it assigned through DHCP. Any help with getting
my NIC interface going will be greatly appreciated.

Also, how do you figure out the network and broadcast
addresses for a subnet. I can figure out them out for
a network that doesn't have a subnet, but I get lost
when you throw a subnet into the mix. I read the
subnet mini-howto but I was lost.

Thanks and let me know if you need any other information
that I might have let out.
