I suddenly remembered why I changed /dev/hdc's permissions from 660 to 664.
After doing the testing I described above, I changed the group back to operator
but forgot to change the permissions back to 664. I then started the kscd
cd player to listen to a music CD only to get an error. The kscd cd player in
kde won't work (at least it won't work on my PC) until I change the
permissions for /dev/hdc back to 664 from 660 (i.e., add read to other).
