Depends a bit on your modem. The Hayes-standard command to silence the
speaker is ATM0 . You might be able to save that as part of your modem's
configuration, possibly by using minicom to access your modem, entering the
command, then entering AT&W0 to save the change as part of your modem's
profile. 

Not all modems will save profiles, though, and I'm not certain that the &W0
command is completely standard, so you might want to extend your chat script
by adding these this line right before the lines that dials the number:

        OK      ATM0    \

(don't omit the trailing backslash).

If you don't use chat to dial, you'll want to add the ATM0 to the script
file for whatever dialer you do use.
