It sounds like the diskette is for DOS drivers, since .exe ussually
stands and has become famous in DOS for meaning EXEcuteable file. This
aren't need for it to work in linux. If the CD-ROM drive is standard
IDE or SCSI then you will not need any drivers to get it to work in
linux, except those provided by the linux kernel.
linux answer:
By default most kernels ("Out of the box") support IDE cdrom. If your
kernel doesn't it will give an error and you will need to recompile the
'drvier' into your kernel. If this is the case read the look in
/usr/doc or linux.org click support, click howto or look in your
distrubation installation manual for more details (SuSe has an great
manual btw and a complete chapter on howto recompile the kernel, worth
the read).
If you are still have problems post to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED] but do NOT cross post, people may see it as rude
and can get quite confusing.
'other OS' answer:
If you purchases the drive from a store or directly from the manufacture
under warranty or a guarnette and the diskette that include the drivers
for your OS where defective it up to the manufactore to provide a
replace diskette or refund.
Also many hardware manufactures provide updates to their products
drivers and software via their web page. Look on the diskette, manual
and the box it's self for a url to the manufactores http/ftp site.
If that doesn't work, and it is a standard IDE drive, try using standard
drivers for the 'other OS'. %90 of the time this works. If this
doesn't work contact your manufactor via email or telephone support to
get replace diskettes. If you are still having problems with this drive
under 'another OS' contact 'anotherOS' mail list, do not expect
linux-newbie or suse mail list to provide support for other companies
opertaing systems.
