Just the obvious questions, I fear.
1. What kind of modem is it? If it is PnP, might restarting have moved its
IRQ &/or IO base? For example, did you previously boot into WinXX, then soft
boot to Linux?
2. Is the symlink still present? I ask this only because there is obviously
something wrong with your system (the 13 meg problem simply shouldn't be
happening) and wonder if more is going wrong. (BTW, minicom does expect to
find /dev/modem and uses it as its default.)
