Programming in Linux

i know a little bit C programming and I am familier with ANSI C libraries. i
am interested in OS features in linux (like APIs in WINDOZ). for example how
can i create shell like bash or mc, can i write to the screen directly, if
yes then how, threads, process,..., etc....

can anyone suggest me any book/URL/document that can help me to build my
base step by step?
