Hi, Ever since successfully :-) configuring dosemu, I've had a couple of
strange problems crop up that are only happening in the root account.
Since I only edited dosemu.conf and dosemu.users and ran dos and xdos I
can't figure out what is causing these things. I also verified several
RPM packages for missing or changed files to no avail. I'm trying to avoid
re-installing as that seems like an overkill solution.

Phenomena are:

1) cannot run dos in root account at all. Hangs even when I take the
non-root-user permission out of dosemu.users Runs great in user account
-- even foxpro 2.6 extended version and a business graphics package. :-)

2) printtool (RH tool to configure the printer) starts and instantly
aborts. I also notice that the /dev/print item does not point to lp2. Just
checked again and noticed that the printer device is GONE from /dev :-X
But I just printed something with lpr and had no problem! <??> (I have not
edited /etc/printcap directly and it looks fine to me.)

3) Console mode dialogs in the root account -- such as setup, linuxconf
(char mode versions) are corrupted on the screen. But, oddly, they're fine
in the non-root account (where it does no good to run them really). :-X
I'm referring here to the Okay, Cancel, Quit boxes, borders, etc. They
have ugly numbers and characters instead of the nice boxes with shadows
that they normally have. I think this has something to do with ansi but I
can't find anything pertinent with apropos on ANSI, ansi, console, etc. I
do have ansi.sys running in the dos config.sys but this happens in a linux
tty console session even when I haven't started dos since last rebooting.

All of the above started happening -- at least I noticed them -- at the
same time -- just after successfully configuring dosemu.

Any clues on how I might fix any of these would be greatly appreciated!

One additional problem with dosemu: I can't get dos to talk to my modem on
com1 even though configured correctly for ttyS0 in dosemu.conf and the
same program in real DOS works. I'm suspecting a uugetting setting in
inittab which allows users to dial-in. Any suggestions on how to handle
this would be great as well.

thanks,
jamie faunt
