Share the drive like normal under win98, then you can use the
smbmount command or smbclient command.

Smbmount command will mount a SMB device, (ie. win98 drive or folder)
to a local filesystem.

smbclient will connect to an SMB devie, (ie. win98 or folder) and allow
the user to "work" with it on the fly. It works simplar to an ftp
cleint.

The Samba package will also let your do the reverse, it will let you
mount Linux filesystems or "work" with them on the fly.

Any device that a Win32-Win32 can share or do, Samba will
allow one to do the same with Linux-Win32, this includes share
printers, drives, filesystems, etc.

Check out www.freshmeat.net and do a search for samba and it will
turn up their webpage, downloades, etc...

It is more than likely on your Slackware CD's, or even already installed
on the system. Look for smbmount or smbclient and see if any program
turn
up, if so, it is already on your system.
