But when run by >cron, I get the following error message: [cutted] I had a similar problem: Cron starts a shell scripts which uses ppp to connect; fetchmail, smail and suck to receive and send. Running kernel 2.2.10 and ppp-2.3.8 worked fine. After upgrading to kernel 2.2.11 I had a very similar problem. After upgrading to ppp-2.3.9 the problem vanished. hope it helps Martin
