So long as the X server actually runs, and seems to be ok, it should be
fine. I have seen similar warnings on PIII systems with the ATI Rage Pro.
I personally use S3 cards, if I have the choice (although having no money
frequently puts me in the "begger" position, and you all know the cliche,
beggars can't be choosers.
I'm lucky to have an S3 Trio 64+ at the moment-- it's a lot better than my
TGUI9660 card was :-).
