to all, I have just installed Linux on an old Pentium75 machine - went fine, but I have had major problems with the SMC8000 ethernet card -- RedHat Linux didn't recognize it on the first install. I have tried copying the net.cfg settings from the Win3.1 system (etherII, I/O 280, IRQ5) via linuxconf, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. So I have Linux installed, but no internet connectivity, and I can't get Linux to recognized the ethernet card that works fine for my Win3.1 connection to the local network.
