Hm... that's very interesting.  Any external port that I have ever seen in
existance has been able to hot swap, although I wouldn't do it ever again
with something like a Zip drive or an external SCSI device, but you can do
it and from the hardware end of things, anyway, I've never seen a problem.

Software, on the other hand, is a different question, depending on the
involved things.
