Re; Kernel size

OK, people,--

I seem to have not been entirely clear.  I *have* managed to get my
kernel compiled correctly.  I just had a couple questions about the
limits imposed.

Why the ~500K limit?
How did Red Hat get such a large kernel?
Why won't it allow a system with large amounts of RAM to compile a
larger kernel?

Just curiosity.
