Maybe you can take a look at the NIC itself and try to find out which chip 
is used, and then have a look for the chip in the NIC database... Ich 
bought a noname 10/100Mbps card and I too tried the ne2k-pci driver, but it 
didn't work. Then I looked and it had a RTL8139 chip, so I took the 8139 
driver and now it works fine even with autodetect.
