I've never been brave enough to experiment with dual booting systems for
just
this sort of reason. Instead I have Windows and Linux on separate drives
each
in a removable tray. There is a third drive fixed in the case and
configured
as primary slave which is useful if I need to share or transfer files
between
Windows and Linux.

Of course the machine must be switched off each time you pull one tray out
and
slot the other in but then this does mean that each OS starts from a cold
boot
which is probably a good thing. If your two drives are a matching pair you
don't even need to alter the bios when you change them.

With this arrangement I can play and experiment as much as I want secure in
the
knowledge that however disastrous my fiddling may be in one OS the other is
safely disconnected and can not be harmed. For peace of mind I recommend
it.
