sounds like a ne2000 clone. Try using the ne2000 driver.

What do you mean by flat cable ? If you mean something to the DB15 ports,
forget it. If it is an RJ45 (phone-like connector), you need either a hub
or a crossover cable.
For a two machine network, I would use BNC.
