Hi Paul,
I had this problem myself and thought I was going mad as it was doing
this on the three machines that I installed it on. I ended up looling
through usenet for the answer and it seems quite common. I believe it
has something to do with incorrect installation of modules.

So reboor your computer and when you get to "finding module
Dependancies" do a contol-C which will allow you to continue. Sometimes
you can do depmod -a to clean up the installed modules, I think they are
links left over from the initial install. That didn't work for me, so I
also had to go to the /lib/modules directory and there will be a
directory called 2.2.xxx or similar, delete that directory and then go
to the /usr/src/linux and redo the commands make modules and make
modules_install

If you search on usenet newsgroups you will find much more information
on this problem,

cheers

Johann
