Getting serious with Linux .... slowly but surely ... Should I (am I allowed to) change: root? localhost? localdomain? I think 'localhost' will change as soon as I give my computer a NAME. (I did once and promply my email downloading did not work. I will try again.) I have no idea why 'root' shows up..... 'User' is 'n0jn' with home-dir /home/n0jn/ . I gave n0jn root access. 'n0jn' is me. Only user. Same for 'root' . What about 'localdomain'? Is it normal to leave it like that? I use 'sendmail -q -bs -v' to send my email. MUA is mutt, old version. (new version of mutt already downloaded, ready to install) Here is a message for reference: === On Sun, Oct 03, 1999 at 05:45:31AM -0800, Mail Delivery Subsystem wrote: > Return-Path: <MAILER-DAEMON> > Received: from localhost (localhost) > by localhost.localdomain (8.8.7/8.8.7) with internal id FAA00210; > Sun, 3 Oct 1999 05:45:31 -0800 > Date: Sun, 3 Oct 1999 05:45:31 -0800 > From: Mail Delivery Subsystem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> note: the msg never did go to 'weblink.com'.... maybe a configuration error. > Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > MIME-Version: 1.0 > Content-Type: multipart/report; report-type=delivery-status; > boundary="FAA00210.938958331/localhost.localdomain" > Subject: Warning: could not send message for past 4 hours > Auto-Submitted: auto-generated (warning-timeout) > ********************************************** > ** THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY ** > ** YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE ** > ********************************************** > > The original message was received at Sat, 2 Oct 1999 21:39:06 -0800 > from root@localhost > > ----- The following addresses had transient non-fatal errors ----- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > ----- Transcript of session follows ----- > 451 [EMAIL PROTECTED] compuserve.com: Name server timeout > Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours > Will keep trying until message is 5 days old n0jn note: From what fkashed on the screen looks like message was rejected because something wrong: 'non-specific .......' I presume it has to do with 'localhost@localdomain'. > Reporting-MTA: dns; localhost.localdomain > Arrival-Date: Sat, 2 Oct 1999 21:39:06 -0800 > > Final-Recipient: RFC822; [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Action: delayed > Status: 4.4.3 > Last-Attempt-Date: Sun, 3 Oct 1999 05:45:31 -0800 > Will-Retry-Until: Thu, 7 Oct 1999 21:39:06 -0800 > Return-Path: <root> > Received: (from root@localhost) > by localhost.localdomain (8.8.7/8.8.7) id VAA00543; > Sat, 2 Oct 1999 21:39:06 -0800 > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Sat, 2 Oct 1999 21:39:06 -0800 > From: root <root> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Testing Compuserve > Mime-Version: 1.0 > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > X-Mailer: Mutt 0.85e === ---Herman Aalderink <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Philippines (Cebu island).
