I've had some modem problems for the last couple of days. At first, the modem worked fine under root but not under my user account. When I would try to start it, it woyld say "pppd is not properly installed, the pppd binary must be installed with the SUID bit set. I then did the following: chmod 666 /dev/ttyS1 chown root:root /usr/sbin/pppd chmod +s /usr/sbin/pppd chmod 666 /etc/resolv.conf This got rid of the first message and the kppp dialer now engages the modem, dials, connects, but now I get a new error message: "pppd daemon died unexpectedly". when I try to view log it says "cannot unlock log file" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
