I am not familiar with Caldera's install, but at some point in the install
process did you get prompted to select your printer. I Know in RH6.0 the
Canon 610 is in the list of supported printers. You just select it and the
install program writes /etc/printcap for you.

If that is the case, a simple

lpr filename

should work. Try a couple things. Logged in as root enter

/etc/fstab | /dev/lp0

That should print fstab to your printer (unformatted mind you). If that
works you know that linux is talking to your parallel port OK. Next try

lpr /etc/fstab

If that works, you know your printer is working correctly.
