I have made progress. Slrn apparently only recognises a few colors, and I
had specified one it didn't know (grey). I am now able to change colors
within it's limited scope.

What I *really* want to do is run it without colors. I was able to do
that before with no problem.

I may try a newer version if there is one, if that fails I'll go back to
an older version. (Or try tin).
