I wonder if fsck even moaned about the file.???

Contary to what the others say have you tryed using netscape and
choosing the clear cache option.???

If that does not work and the following as root 
cd /home/$USER/.netscape/cache
rm -rf *
rm -rf .*
rm -rf -- *

Then you have the troubles talked about by the others.

I had the same sort of problem, but i managed to delete the file.
On another note, when did the file appier, and what version of
netscape is used, i ask this because of the time stamp, or you booted
the computer with a false time in the bios, which could have caused
the problem, thats just a guess of course, i judge that on the fact
that corruption can occur under certain curcumstancies when clocks
dont match.
