Thats your problem or so it seems, it states in the 2.3.
kernels/Documentation that  version DHCP-2.0 will not work with 2.2
kernels, i interpret that to mean that 3.0 will not work on 2.2
kernels.

Once again, Use DHCP-2.0 it works here at home and on another
machine at out local clubhouse doing what you ask.
