Yes, this works! 

However, the install script remembered that vmware was in
/tmp/myrcdir/init.d/, after I had moved it.  So, I copied it back.  I also
had to add the directories: /etc/rc.d/init.d, /etc/rc.d/rc3.d and
/etc/rc.d/rc6.d so that vmware could add some symbolic links.
