Lost my shutdown in KDE

Hi everyone

I had a crash a couple of days ago.

When I restarted Linux. the KDE desktop
login screen didn't include a means of getting out.

I have to use the terminal within KDE and issue a command line
shutdown.

Did the crash somehow change modes on me?

Where would I look for this information.
What mode is typical for a stand alone workstation?
