Check out xfmail, it is a decent sized program and requires some libraries
for it to work, but has a really nice interface...  goto
http://www.freshmeat.net also you might want to check out arrow, it is a
little lighter weight, but loses some feartures.

Also pine isn't the only text base email program, both elm and mutt are
great.
