Thank you for your reply, as I mentioned in my response to Ray I'm still
struggling to work out what I'm doing wrong.

Oops. Yes. I didn't mean to include the www.

correct for what your isp has as his address and what his >nameserver is.?
In response to a direct request, my ISP provided the IP address 203.29.91.161.
I would have thought they would know what they're doing, but then again their
help files on connecting in Linux are out of date.

can you resolv hostnames,? for example does nslookup work,

When I replaced the IP address of nameserver with the number you provided
(212.115.192.193), nslookup gave the above statement. When I used nslookup
with the IP address provided by my ISP, nslookup said that it could not locate
a server and something about no default servers. I'm sorry I didn't copy the
error message exactly as outputed, but I have to switch to Windows to send
this message and forgot to write it down.

You've lost me here. How do I check all my routes? What should I be checking
for?

I typed in this command and nothing happened (ie no output message, no prompt,
no nothing). I tried route help and man route, but I'm afraid I don't know
what I'm doing and the explanations did not help clear things up.
This is probably very tedious for you all, but I do really appreciate your
efforts to get me online.
