Where does my DNS servers info go?

Hello,

I'm trying to set up my Linux system to use my PPP Internet 
connection. I was doing fine reading the HOWTO until I got to the 
point where it says I should write:

search .
nameserver IP_ADDRESS
<nidx>nameserver

Which file should contain this info?
