Route daemon

Hello, everybody!

This question might sound weird, but I'll ask it
anyway.  Do I need to start route daemon manually each
time I boot up the system (Slackware 4.0, in my case)?
 
I have to nics: one for ethernet, the other - for
token ring.  Why do I need to start the route daemon?


Any help is appreciated!
