Newer versions have software updates, kernel updates (more hardware,
features supported), etc. I am currently working with RH5.2, and having no
problems at all. But try (if you can) to get a newer version, because it
has also software you will need (library's, etc.) for compiling new
software.

No, you don't need another keyboard. (84 key keyboard is that without
F-key's ?! ;)) You need the following key's: ENTER, space bar, tab,
end the a,b,c......,x,y,z. Note: I hope you know that you will need a lot
of info about your hardware!!!!

I used "Teach yourself Linux in 24 hours" by Bill Ball
this also includes RedHat Linux 5.2 :) and has more than 400 pages.
