If you do not concern about security, I'd recommend MuLinux (microLinux)
from

As MuLinux speaks X, you may config your system into a X-terminal easily.

       Hi all,

       I've got a 386, 8 MB RAM, 500 MB HD, no sound, 16 color VGA, 3.5 and
5.5 FD, no CD-ROM (BIOS is dated somewhere in the early 1990's).
I'd like to put a small Linux distro on the system. Doesn't have to
be GUI. I'm only using the machine to run the distributed.net's
       client.

Any suggestions on a small distro that's fairly wasy to install?

       TIA,
       bd.
