What you are getting is the kernel saying "Ouch" and produceing an "Oops"
see /usr/src/linux/REPORTING-BUGS and
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/BUG-HUNTING
You dont say which kernel version you are using, if we are talking 2.3.xx
here then you must expect things like that to happen because you would be
using a "development kernel" if you are using 2.2.xx then it should not
happen.
On the otherhand you say there is no effect on the machines performance,
then i for one would just avoid hitting the key which causes the problem.
