When you are logging in as root, you are logging in on the first one, which is tty1. there's also tty2-6. You can get to these by pressing the alt key and one of the F keys. F1 for the first, F2 for the second and so on.. So even if something is hung in one terminal, you can flip over to another, as the system is not dead.. hope that clears it up to some degree have fun greg -- this is not here
