Background: I'm not a Linux, NT, or Networking expert (by a long shot), all
I know is what I've seen from the user end and bits and pieces I've picked
up from playing around in my spare time.
Can Linux be used to transparently (as far as users are concerned) replace
an NT Server? ......and still leave the administrator with one "user
database" to maintain?
By transparently I mean that username/passwd/NT domain is entered at logon,
then a logon script executes to map network drives, update anti-virus
software, etc. What about roaming NT user profiles? Can Samba do all this?
All I can gleen from the Samba How-To is that it's used to connect drives
and printers across the OS barrier.
I guess that most of this is possible (not sure about entering an NT domain
or roaming profiles though) but I don't know how.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for info on configuring such a
setup. I've had a look at the How-Tos but can't seem to find this info (It
wouldn't be the first time I've missed the blindingly obvious). Also, I have
the RH6.1 (Cheapbytes) Distro, I'd be grateful if you could let me know if I
need any additional software.
Many thanks,
Cheers,
Ailwyn.
