First..... thanks for the help over the past week. The problem with the
modem was IRQ collisions with NIC. I still have to setserial /dev/ttyS2
irq 7 as soon as I reboot. (rebooting as per how-to's).

So anyway...... I'm trying to chnge the value of
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward to "1".

But nothing will let me write the file. I've changed all the permissions
associated with that file and still nothing will let me write a file
named ip_forward (with the intention of editting it once I've got it).

Is there something special that won't even allow root to chnge the value
in this file????

I'm running RH6.1 and trying to IP MASQ to be able to iMac > Linux Box >
Net.....

I am referring to
http://members.home.net/ipmasq/ipmasq-HOWTO-1.79-6.html

TIA,

John
